Crochet
I learned to crochet about 9 years ago, and I’m still learning. I love everything about it: the colors, the yarn – looking at it, touching it, buying it, admiring it in my stash…; learning new stitches, mastering new patterns, taking pictures of my projects, gifting finished items, and seeing them being loved and used. The whole process is so invigorating, and the crocheting itself so soothing, I just can’t imagine ever living without it.
When I first started, I made different things for myself (one of my first projects was a summer dress!) but eventually, I gravitated towards making mostly blankets, and a two-person household can only provide enough undivided attention to so many blankets. So now I usually start working on a new blanket with a recipient in mind – like Albert for this fancy new bed. But I always make sure they really want it so the fruit of over 100 hours of my labor doesn’t end up sitting in the back of a closet.
Are you a fellow crocheter looking for inspiration or to join a conversation? Are you looking to pick up a new hobby? Did you learn some basics a long time ago but never really stuck with it long enough to gain confidence? Please, come on in and unwind. Pick up a hook and let me show you the magic it can do.
Papercrafts
Papercrafts have been a hobby of mine much longer, but I guess when I was younger, I was not ready. I just wasn’t curious enough to look into it properly, learn some cool techniques, and find ways to apply my natural inclination towards playing with scissors and glue (no sniffing, now!). And by the time my researching skills had developed, I was too busy crocheting. Or so I thought. But you know what? I have a Cricut Maker, and I’m ready to make stuff. Are you with me?
